Kriterion Monrovia is a university-based, student-led social enterprise that showcases and creates spaces for Liberian culture and cinema. In 2018, KM will launch a cinema and cultural centre, managed by students and providing an independent atmosphere for and enabling entrepreneurship of young Liberians. KM is a registered non-profit in Liberia and a member of the Filmtheater Kriterion group.
“Kriterion Monrovia means a better, brighter future for me both professionally and personally. I am learning life skills that will help develop and prepare me for the workforce and have made lasting friendships that inspire me to strive for excellence.”
Who We Are
KM is a social enterprise fostering independent, inclusive, apolitical safe-spaces that helps students develop ideas, find artistic and social justice voices, contribute perspectives, and gain financial assistance. KM is self-sustainable from income generated by national and international screenings and events. All revenues support general operations, projects, and the ArtHouse Cinema Fund.
Student Projects & Entrepreneurship
KM's projects are directed by students who manage strategy, planning, and daily business operations. In a mentorship-driven, learn-by-doing atmosphere, KM's student members rapidly develop into capable and cognizant young professionals.
Culture & Inclusion
KM implements innovative and independent cultural programming of movie screenings, events, workshops, and space for young artists. It is culture first, showcasing all Liberian voices, inclusive of all social standings, religions, tribes, sex, gender expressions, and/or sexual orientations.
KM is a platform for international exchange, where ideas are shared and friendships are formed between students from Filmtheater Kriterion branches in Amsterdam, Sarajevo, and Monrovia.
